DPS Libraries , Fall 2020

Hello All!
As we begin thinking about what "back to school" looks like this fall I want to share the latest directive from the kind people at DPS Library Services.
I will follow up with more specifics that pertain to the Denver Discovery School Library in the weeks ahead.
In keeping with our Denver Discovery School Library Mission Statement ... maintaining the library as a "safe and nurturing environment" has never been more important!
Please stay safe.

With reduced contact and physical distancing measures in place, along with an emphasis on student and staff safety, DPS libraries will still be able to continue to serve students, staff, and the community by adjusting our practices when we return to school.
As new safety recommendations and DPS district policies are announced, changes may be made.

Our students, teachers, and school communities need libraries now more than ever, and our primary goal is to ensure our students and staff have the easiest access possible to our library collections, programs, and instruction.

Large groups of students (such as a class of 30+) visiting the library is no longer possible, so adapted library book circulation solutions will include some of the following:

Holds + Classroom Delivery
Students and staff will be able to place holds on books available in the school library and a delivery schedule will be set up and and communicated it to teachers so they & the students know when to expect the books to be delivered.

Bins for Book Returns
Returned books will be placed in labeled book return bins for students to drop off library books. Returned books must be quarantined for 72 hours minimum before checking them in & out to students who have them on hold or for re-shelving.

Traditional methods of working with students will no longer be allowed, so DPS libraries will have to think differently about how to offer library services virtually.
